Jobs and Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

Save the children

I chose this organization because they are working to make a difference in the lives of children in several different areas. Some of the areas that mean the most to me include nutrition, hunger, education, and child protection. I always felt like I had a passion for poverty and once my Grandfather died, the issue of nutrition became extremely important to me. My Grandfather died from a disease that he got because he was unable to eat or drink anything.  The goal of the organization is: “We aim to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives by improving their health, education and economic opportunities. In times of acute crisis, we mobilize rapid assistance to help children recover from the effects of war, conflict and natural disasters” (Save the Children, 2011). There are many children out there that is affected by many different issues that need our help.

The open position that I was interested in was the Early Childhood Coordinator.

The international charity is located in Mount Albert, ON.   ABCD: Art Building Children’s Dreams. This charity raises funds to help children in rural Tanzania complete their education. They pay school fees directly, and also fund breakfast programs, school libraries, teaching resources, computer classrooms, new toilets and kitchens in schools, and other school infrastructure projects.

  1. Hi Crystal,
Some of the jobs take you out your comfort zone as an early childhood professional. "Save the Children" is an exceptional organization. Many of the job positions offered are relevant to the mission. I must say that these organizations demand highly qualified and skilled professionals. This is important because many of these job opportunities may require you to understand culture.

  2. Hi Crystal -
I enjoyed reading your views on two of these organizations; Save the Children and FHI 360. I also chose these two organizations and found it amazing at how much they do for all children throughout the world. I had first hand experience with Save the Children when a town in Mississippi was wiped out by tornadoes and they came in to help children first in the shelters and then in temporary child care centers to get back some type of routine going again. This is a wonderful organization that not only helps within the United States, but then goes abroad to help in other countries to ensure children are being given the essentials.
    Thanks for sharing!
